Alright, so the last 24 hours has been the absolute best time. I drove out to Ruidoso with Laura and her friend Trevor so that we could have a relaxing time in the mountains. Ruidoso is a cute little town that basically is around because of a racetrack, casino, and ski hills in the winter. Laura's family has a house up there in the mountains (but by house I secretely mean that every house I have ever lived in could simultaneously fit inside this one fantastic place set into the side of a mountain). We wandered the shops last night and had dinner on the patio of a yummy pasta place. Then we watched movies and lay on the back deck staring at the stars. There are more stars here than I have ever seen in my life. Its nuts. You know those clear nights when you see so many that the whole sky almost looks hazy with them?! It's like that all the time!! Beautiful.
Today we went for a 3 hour hike up a mountain just outside town. Also gorgeous. Very hot. Much more dry than I'm used to (and my poor lungs don't understand the altitude yet) but beautiful anyway. There are tons of butterflies, and every once in a while people on horseback pass you on the trails. I will have to head back up another weekend to try that out!! We stopped and had lunch on a big fallen log (picture the movie Dirty Dancing...it was just like that) and then went home for naps :)
I hope you all are having a great weekend. All the Canadians here were wearing red and white with pride and we blared Tragically Hip the whole way to Ruidoso as our salute to Canada!
Lots of love
Pamela

What a wonderful experience you are having out there!!
ReplyDeleteQuestion: who took the picture of the three of you (the Bear?). It's amazing to see such lush growth under such dry conditions.
The reason for the clearer stars at night is the lack of smog and urban glow (sky reflection from city lights).
Sparky was here on the weekend and is doing just fine although the driver claims she has no umph over 120. She's been serviced and is get to go for another 6000 K.
:-))
Glad to hear that everything is so great. Don't get too excited about the perks of being a doctor. You may find things quite different in Canada.
ReplyDeleteWe're heading east tomorrow to spend a week with Rob, Shelagh and the girls at Port Elgin so you won't be hearing from us.
Hope all continues to go well.
Love,
Auntie Liz
Hi Pam,
ReplyDeleteIts great to read that you're having such an enjoyable time down south. The pictures and the stories that go along with them are great, keep'm coming!
Just a friendly reminder, a brother of yours and our grandmother's birthday is coming up fast, so you might want to get some cards in the mail today or tomorrow.
Love,
Doug
