Hi Everyone,
I'm here! Safe and sound! I am staying in the cutest house. It is a mother and daughter that live here, and the daughter runs a daycare downstairs during the day. They are the nicest family and have fed me all my meals for the last 24 hours even though that is not included. I have my own room, my own bathroom, and access to their computer for internet...all for 15$US/night! It's craziness! Donna (the mom) has even offered to drop me at the hospital every morning on her way to work, so I only have to take the bus home in the afternoon.
The island is gorgeous. I can see a bit of ocean off the back balcony here. We had big plans of going to the beach today, but it was rainy. Not just rainy, the most heavy downpours I have ever seen! It definitely is huricane season. I haven't heard rain so loud on a roof since my bunkbed was inches below the ceiling in our tin roofed farmhouse. It is glorious. Such a relaxed sound. I may have to kill all the birds and bugs in the gulley behind our house though...they are loud and not relaxing at all. There is a turtle that lives in the front yard who is really cute. And apparently sometimes the monkeys come and play in the trees, but I haven't see that yet.
So basically I've just been settling in and getting used to their accents. Tonight they took me to Mass at the Catholic church with them. Not being catholic I was only a little bit lost...at one point there were bells and I could not for the life of me figure out where they were coming from! But the church was beautiful. Old stone work, wood ceiling and beams, big stained glass windows that all turn out to let the breeze through, and the service was just at sunset. If God were to be anywhere, I think he would be there, where he could just flow in and out through the church as the service went on. The priest was really nice, a young guy...first time I've heard the word "freaky" used in a sermon. Definitely had to bite my tongue to not laugh at that one!
I'm off to bed to do some studying before I start work on Wednesday. Tomorrow and Tuesday are holidays here, so hopefully the weather will get better and I can check out the beach and swim in the ocean for the first time :)
Lots of love
Pamela
p.s. There probably won't be pictures until I get home because the connection is a bit slow. Just picture palms, lava rocks, beaches, crazy houses and huts at all angles, winding roads with really fast drivers....and heat that would melt the pounds off you!
Glad you've arrived safely for your next adventure. You really were lucky to get such a great B & B.
ReplyDeleteJust checked Barbados weather and it's 31C. but feels like 43. We're currently 29 and 34 with humidex Thank goodness for airconditioning. I hope the ocean breezes are keeping you reasonably comfortable. Store up some of it for next winter in Thunder Bay!
We'd like to do a warm winter break about February. Does your B & B lady rent during that time?
Hope you're having a great time.
Love,
Auntie Liz
Hey Pam, good to hear your lack of plan worked out. Told ya doing things at the last minute is best :)
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I just got back from seeing The Island... just came out in theaters here in Australia. I'm glad your island actually exists. heh
Brad
So another adventure in a hot place - but this one is a humid heat! Hope the B & B is air conditioned so that you can have a restful sleep.
ReplyDeleteGuess the sight seeing is over tonight and tomorrow its back to the game of absorbing new medical knowledge.
Have lots of fun.
luv

So what's this. Idle time in the islands and the extreme humidity and heat have slowed down the typing fingers so we get no newsy and very interesting blogs of your latest doings.
ReplyDeleteHave fun and learn lots.
