It is lovely to have devoted followers...but man they sure let you know when it's been too long since you have posted!!! So here it is - BLOG!
A brief history of the last few weeks of my life:
Flew to Canada from Thailand.Woke up my brother's family at 7:30am to say hello when I got home :)
Drank a lot of Tim Hortons.
Slept a lot.
Flew to Calgary. Got inducted into the College of Family Physicians. Received a leadership award.
Had a lovely weekend hanging out with extended family and step-niece (?is that a word?)
Flew back to Toronto
Drove to Kingston, then Clayton, hung out with my Dad.
Drove back to Kingston, then Toronto.
Flew to Thunderbay
Drove to Marathon.
And now here I sit, in the Doctors lounge, enjoying my new locum :) I love love love this place. They left a welcome package of fruit, cheese, chocolate and wine at my house for when I got here. And even though I am oncall all weekend and working in emerg, I can do that from the comfort of my house if I'd like to! If there is nothing go on, then I go home. They'll call me or page if something happens that I need to come back in. Life is good :)
No exciting/bizarre/gross stories yet, but I'm sure they will come with time. It is wonderful to be back at work. I started to forget how much I love it. Although I am having a bit of a hard time kickstarting my brain after being off for almost 2 months. Somedays it sort of feels like its turning over but not catching...maybe I just need new spark plugs :)
Northern Ontario is CHILLY! It's down below zero every night here and my truck was covered in forst this morning. That's right - I drive a Chevy Trailblazer here. I'm cool. hahahaha. I would look terribly out of place if I drove some littel compact car, plus its just not practical on these roads. I actually had to stop at turn the 4-wheel drive on during my drive in cause the layer of frost was enough to have me spinning at the stop signs! Or maybe that's just because I was having fun playing in my truck...hmmmmm....hard to say.....I'm gonna blame the frost :)
Well that's all for now. I hear the doorbell ringing at emerg so I should go see if there's something happening. Oh yeah - there is a doorbell. People politely sit and wait for a nurse to come find them in the front lobby. And for the most part they call in before they come to hospital!!! "Hello, this is so-and-so, I feel really sick but I'm not sure if I should just wait for clinic on Monday, would it be ok if I came down to the hospital to get checked out?" Well, let me tell you Mr and Mrs So-and-So - I love you. I love your small town charm and your quiet and polite ways. I love your bake sales in the hospital lobby. I love your hockey teams that all march through emerg to see their injured teammate after the game to tell him how they won. I love your family of doctors who call in just to see how I'm doing and if I would like a break :) I love love love small town life.
