Our newest happy place

We had the most lovely trip to Singapore this weekend. It is one of the few places you can fly directly from our local airport so we decided to check it out when Ray finally had a weekend off.

Wow. Just wow. It's lovely! It is like Vancouver but 20 degrees hotter. Lol. The streets are lined with huge trees, the parks are beautiful, and it is by far the cleanest place I have ever been. I guess their laws against chewing gum, or spitting, or littering are really working!!

On Sunday we took in a wine fair in conjunction with the Gourmet Food Festival (the food festival tickets were too expensive...and these ones included free booze!). I have now come to understand why you spit out the wine when you are going to taste a lot of them...... after a nap and some tylenol and I was able to stumble my way to the street for falafel and then back to bed for me.

Monday we spent the day wandering the botanical gardens. It was amazing. They have a whole orchid garden which contains over 10,000 species of orchids! I limited myself to only 100 pictures. Next it was off to the famous Raffles hotel for a taste of Singapore Sling from the bar where it was invented. Highly overpriced and actually not really as good as the average bar's version, but it was an experience in itself. We also had supper there at a totally amazing steakhouse. Ray has this idea that since he is stuck in the middle of nowhere most of the time, living in a company house, 50% of the time offshore and eating for free (and really only dollars a day when he's in town) - then on vacation he should get to splurge. So we tend to go to ridiculous steakhouses and eat over-the-top gourmet meals for ridiculous prices. I am more than happy to tag along :)

On this occasion - Ray had a trio of Wagyu beef, braised short ribs and lobster....and his own bottle of wine. Even the side dishes were amazing. There were some noodles and he couldn't even make his mouth describe to me what they were like - he just kept repeating 'dude.......dude......oh dude....' over and over. It was hilarious! They will forever be known as 'Dude noodles' and I will try my best to recreate them.

Oh and this vacation marks another first in our relationship - the first time that hotel and restaurant staff have assumed we are married and consistently called me - Mrs. Chung. hahahaha.

Lots of love
Pamela

p.s. I just realized that a line in a song that has confused me for ages (thought it said 'what a lovely day to shake your tree') actually says - ' what a lovely day to shape your dreams'.....hmm.....makes a lot more sense now.....how did I get that so horribly wrong?
