More thoughts on small town life

There are a couple thoughts I have been mentally collecting for a blog someday....but none of them seem to develop into a full post of their own. So perhaps a good Sunday morning project is to mash them all into one disjointed post :)

First of all - my neighbour is obsessed with shoveling his driveway. He is out there right now....I can hear him through my paper thin walls. Thankfully today it is as 9:30, whereas sometimes it is at 5:30am. He shovels and scrapes, and scrapes and shovels, and then he sweeps it. Yup, that's right, he gets out a big push broom and makes sure that every last flake of snow is gone. Is there something I don't know about driveway care? Do driveways melt away if you don't sweep them? Good thing my house has a gravel laneway so I don't have to worry about such things :)

Also - I have found the meeting place of town council. It's at Robin's Donuts. Ok, so it might not be the official town council, but I can assure you that they sit and debate the issues and pass opinion on what is happening. Robin's has actually built a special table for this esteemed group - it is a huge octagon that sits at the front window with stools around it. It is almost always full, regardless of the time of day. And only once have a seen a women there. Perhaps she was an expert witness, called in to speak on the current matter of debate. Or perhaps a spy, sent by the soccer moms or the desperate housewives....I'm not sure.

While we are on the topic of Robin's - I am proud to report that I have been here long enough that the "morning lady" at Robin's knows my order :) Mornings at Robin's are a special kind of wonder to see. It is the quietest, most efficient process you have ever seen. You see - the morning girl knows all our orders. So as she sees you walk in she silently makes your drink and has it ready by the time you get to the counter. Then you leave you $1.65 in exact change on the counter (because everyone knows a large coffee is $1.65), exchange a nod and a "have a great day", and off you go! I cannot express to you the joy I felt on the first morning that my large with milk and one sweetener arrived on the counter without having said anything at all!

Well, that's enough blogging for one day. I am off to continue enjoying my first weekend off in forever. Yesterday I stayed in bed until noon and then ate pumpkin pie for breakfast. Today I am going to bake some cookies for the nurses and get ready for a Christmas dinner party tonight. Moose and Partridge Fondue! YUMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!

Lots of love
Pamela
