Today I got to spend the day participating in traditional Cree healing ceremonies. This is where someone comes bringing tobacco, food and a gift to the elders, to ask them for healing. The elders burn tobacco, sage, sweetgrass and cedar and then smoke their pipes to call on the spirits for answers. I don't think - powerful - begins to describe the feeling of getting to witness this. In one case I witnessed a woman being given her Indian name by the spirits. Yup, I'm at a loss for words...or as Michael would say - onewordwow.
The only downside is that now I smell like tobacco. Actually I sort of smell like a showered in tobacco juice, dressed in tobacco leaves, and then lightly doused myself with eau du tobacco. Thank goodness my roommates are away for the weekend!

The tradeoff was worth it though - I came home with a big container of leftover moose stew and bannock. And I met a lady selling lovely handmaid moccasins and bought myself a cozy pair - so now my toes are toasty!
And again I say - BEST DAY EVER :)
Lots of love
