First and foremost - I had my first rides on the helicopter this week. What a rush! It is very surreal to feel yourself suddenly lifting off the ground. And on a few occasions I got the seat up front so I could really see where we were going on and everything that was going on around. Tomorrow I get to take the helicopter to work and back since I'm at the clinic across the river (which is currently half frozen so no boats but also no cars).
Peawanuck is a town of only about 300 people on a little river near Hudson Bay. It is located at the very edge of Polar Bear Provincial Park. So close, in fact, that I could see the sign from my front door! I didn't actually see any polar bears....but I did see this fetching detached leg of something on my way to work....which I'm guessing was either a generous gift from a hunter to his dog, or evidence that one shouldn't walk alone at night.
And if I thought that Moose Factory was pickup-truck-heaven, well then Peawanuck is snow-machine-cloud-9. Nothing brings me greater joy than watching my next patient arrive out front on their skidoo (with sled behind) and the town dogs chasing them down the road.
It is a fantastically good life up here.
Love
Pamela
