A truly Canadian skill

During my three hour drive to work this morning...yes that's right - THREE HOURS! I had the opportunity to prefect a truly Canadian driving skill: The windshield wiper snafu. I'm assuming that most of you are Canadian...but for those that aren't, or have lived in New Mexico so long that they forget what a windshield wiper even is...I will explain....

Essentially when you are driving on a cold day while it is snowing, the snow begins to melt on your semi-warm windshield before it gets wiped away. But then the cold wind, or maybe just being off the part of the windshield with defrost on it, makes it freeze into bizarre lumps. And inevitably these lumps get stuck to your windshield wipers, making them completely ineffective at moving ANYTHING. They create a lovely avant-garde pattern of mush, but they do not in any way create a clear patch of windshield through which to see the road or the other car.

Eventually, something has to be done about this. But you can't just stop and get out of the car - you are in the middle of the highway for pete's sake! And so you have to master the art of the snafu - rolling down the window, leaning forward and sticking your arm around onto the windshield, and then grabbing and snapping the windshield wiper as it moves. I saw a lot of ungraceful attempts this morning, and I'm fairly sure a few people lost some fingers. But I give myself full marks for being able to flick all the ice crud off the wiper in one single snafu!

There should definitely be marks at school for mastering important life skills like this :P

Lots of love
Pamela

Currently... doing all the same stuff as yesterday. Things don't change much in 24 hours!

hmm...if you're getting ice on your windshield, i would suggest turning down the A/C a little. It works for those of us in New Mexico. :P (That's for making The Fun of us who are stuck in the desert)
