The age old question...

It's the age old question...one that has plagued the minds of the greatest scholars for centuries. Millions have wondered about it but few have dared to actually ask...

What the heck is up with Oakville?!?!

Like really! Why does traffic ALWAYS stop there? It could be middle of the day, or middle of the night, but you can be as certain of stop and go traffic at Trafalgar Road as you can of death and taxes. To try to solve this puzzle, I have come up with several theories:

1) The Ford plant is SO pretty that you just have to slow down to take a look. (Hey do those smoke stacks remind anyone else of an Absolut Vodka bottle....Absolut Ford!!)

2) Everyone loves Oakville so much that they all want to get off the highway and take a closer look...hahahah....not likely

3) People in Oakville own large SUVs that they don't actually know how to drive, so onramps and offramps back up traffic for miles as these poor people search for signal lights and brakes.

4) No one really understand what exactly Oakville IS - is it a suburb? is it a city? do real people live there or is it just a place to drive through? - and so they get off the highway to take a look.

5) There is a magnetic field under the 403 at Trafalgar which creates such a pull on each individual vehicle that everyone slows down without really knowing why.

Whatever the reason - I beg you Oakville - Please stop slowing down traffic!!! You drive me crazy!!! One more traffic jam for no reason and I'm going to install cattle bars on my civic and start bumping people out of the way!!

Lots of love

  1. In general, I agree that there's some weird force that slows everyone down at the Ford plant. This week, though, it's because there are pickets around the plant and it's slowing everything down. At least that's what they said on CBC.

Just to clarify you question # 4

Oakville is not a City although it has a large population. It is a TOWN. If you look at the road signs or the road map it is listed as a TOWN. The residents are very proud that they live in a TOWN. Mabe its because of the Anglo background. In Montreal you have the TOWN of Mount Royal - another former Anglo bastien.

So just rememeber that it is the TOWN of Oakville. This could be your answer in disguise - traffic in towns tends to move slower than in Cities. NOTE: the traffic in the City of Burlington seems to move quicker does it not?
