I'm here!!! Safe and sound in Marathon after 8 hours of driving on Saturday and 4 hours on Sunday.
Highlights of the trip:
Scariest moment - when a car on the other side of the highway spun out and headed through the median at me
Best CD - Romi Mayes
Best book - Memoirs of a Geisha (book on cd, don't worry - I'm not that reckless when driving!)
Best billboard - It's a small world. I know. I made it - God. (I kid you not!)
Best town I passed - Gaylord
I should have been warned about - the big bridges that you have to cross! There is something very unnatural about driving onto something where you cannot see the other side!!!!!
Best hotel - Days Inn...well by best I mean ghetto fab. It was semi-gross but it had free high speed internet and room service.
Best view - Northern Ontario. All of it. It's beautiful here. And it was sunny as I drove today which made the snow all sparkly....sigh....I love this country :)
Most blonde moment - not being able to find shopping carts in the grocery store. Seriously. There were other people with carts....but I'll be damned if I could locate them anywhere.
And now here I am in my new apartment. It's bigger than my own - two big bedrooms, living room, eat in kitchen blah blah blah. The fridge was definitely sketchy and needed some scrubbing before I would put food in it, and the bathtub looks the same, but besides that it's awesome! I even have wireless internet and cable tv (oh Food Network, how I've missed you!). So I'm just unpacking and settling in, and then tonight I'm off for dinner with one of the doctors that I am working with.
The next 6 weeks are looking not too shabby :)
Lots of love
Pamela
p.s. There is no sign of a place for me to retrieve mail...let me look into this before anyone starts sending anything!
so the Great White North is a beautiful place. Wait until you get a good sou'wester and the temp drops to -30.
ReplyDeleteHow are the train whistles?
p.s. how come nobody wants to play the send a reply game even though alot read your friendly and informative blogs?? It's just like having you talking to us!!
I actually haven't heard the train whistles. I think I remember seeing the tracks somewhere...but what with it being winter and the windows closed, you'd never know there were trains.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great place! You watch the Food network though? haha
