"Anyone who thinks sunshine is happiness has never danced in the rain."
I just can't get over how much I love the rain here. It is either not raining, or raining like the heavens have split open and the world is going to end. Noah quite possibly lived in Thailand when he was building his ark. And it doesn't drag on and drizzle all day - it pours, and then it is over. Sadly the puddles evaporate pretty quickly :(
It is sort of violent and yet calming. Refreshing. Cleansing for sure. Reminds me of emotional outbursts - you suddenly explode, spill out all the things that have been building up, but then it is done and over with.
I was just learning about the Thai New Year which we will celebrate in April - and it has some similarities to this. It is a 3 days festival, mostly involving throwing water on people! hahaha. It is the height of the hot season, so it's a nice way to cool down, but it has a deeper meaning too. It is the time of year to wash away the old and start anew. One way of expressing that to God is to wash the Buddha statues at the temples, and so it became a sign of good luck or well wishes to collect the water as it drained off the Buddhas, and then wash that over each other.I'm sure I will have more to report after the actual event - but for now, I will keep enjoying the rain on rushing over the roof.
Hmm...speaking of rain....I hope our kittens are ok. Ray and I have adopted the two young cats that seem to live on his office base. They are painfully skinny and dirty so I started bringing them food. Now they come and purrrrrr at my legs while they eat. Next step will be to get them to sit still while I clean the ear mites out of the their ears! We named the first one George (because I name everything George after that old cartoon character who would say - I will love him and squeeze him and call him George) and the second one Book (because my nephew names absolutely everything Book these days and it amuses us. I'm thinking I might need to bring back some flea medication from Canada....because I definitely have not found a pet store here.
Lots of love
Pamela
