Thanksgiving is my undisputed Most Favourite Holiday Ever. In my mind it's just perfect - it's not too commercial, no one needs or expects presents. There is pumpkin pie. There is time with family and friends. All the leaves are turned and the weather is that wonderful fall crisp that smells like apples. And did I mention pumpkin pie?
And every year I realize that my list of things to be thankful for has grown exponentially. I'm not sure how it happens....but it does. Without fail!
I would challenge everyone to really think about the list of things they are thankful for, and realize just how long it is. Of course we all have bad days. Crappy things happen to good people. Family members end up in hospital. Things blow up at work. And sometimes we cry. But when you sit back and think about how much good stuff goes on too.....it just overwhelms you.
So here is my short list...the real list would take me until next year to write.
- my family....every little detail about my family..
- a dad who laughs and jokes even when he is sick, showing how sweet his soul is, and that he loves me
- a mom who constantly inspires me to help everyone I meet
- step-parents who have brought amazing joy, love, and fulfillment to my parents
- brothers who make me laugh while I cry, and who keep me grounded
- sisters in law that remind me I was right as a child to pray I could have an older sister
- step siblings that are so much fun I truly think having multiple families is better than having just one
- my Clayton family who calm me down when I am a spazz, feed me when I'm out of food, and continually teach me about life, love, and crafts
- my girls (you know who you are, and you know you're my family) who roadtrip with me, come up with ridiculous plans, and understand me at my core
- the view out the window today, and the way the leaves pop off the trees when the wind gusts just right
- a faith that "keeps me looking up, even when I'm falling down"
- google messenger
- a job that I am excited to go to every morning
- a safe and warm home
- food in the fridge (or at the drive through window) every day
- friends who magically know just when I need a text message saying hello
I wish for all of you a thanksgiving filled with happiness about where you've been, and excitement about what is still to come.
Lots of love
Pamela
