Texas Sized

It is a steep learning curve, getting used to the culture and practices in Texas. For example, this week's language lessons include:
I am no longer "miss", I am "ma'am"
If responding to "thank you", it is perfectly alright to say "mmhmm" instead of "You're welcome"
Graham is pronounced more like graaaaam
To describe the action of thinking or planning to do something later, you should say "I'm fixin' to _______"
Iced tea doesn't exist, only Sweet Tea, or Unsweet Tea (and if you would like to avoid becoming a diabetic, I strongly recommend the unsweet tea). I haven't figured out yet how you might order a hot tea.

I'm also having a hard time adjusting to "texas sized" servings. For example - the drinks at Sonic come in small, medium, large or Route 44 (a 44 ounce massive cup that you cannot drink while driving because you'll definitely have to stop and pee in a ditch somewhere). The meals are ridiculously large as well. For example - we went for a very nice dinner out a steak house perched up on a hill overlooking the valley. Tres chic! Amazing appetizers and salad, and by the time supper was coming I said  to Ray - "sheesh I should have just ordered dessert and skipped main course". Ray, being the ultimate smartass, joked - well it is Texas honey, when you order pork tenderloin you'll probably get a whole tenderloin. And we laughed and laughed at how ridiculous that would be.....and then.....my plate arrived.... A WHOLE PORK TENDERLOIN! I kid you not. Ray was laughing so hard he couldn't eat. And I just kept saying - what the hell am I supposed to do with a whole pork tenderloin?! How do they make money at this place?!

I've been having enough trouble with weight these days that Texas will have me topping 200 pounds before I know it! I hope they like their women Texas Sized too :) Oh well, today I trotted off to the Humane Society and volunteered  to walk dogs, to help burn off the Texas Sized Calories!

Lots of love
Pamela

p.s. We bought our new car! 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee...pics to come soon. And we're bidding on a house right now....very exciting times :)
