The swanky side of life

After a long week of work in the steamy hot hospital, I have spent the last couple days enjoying the finer things in life :)

On friday night after work I walked to the brand new Hilton hotel to meet my friend Ray who came here on vacation. Every room has an ocean view and a balcony! So we enjoyed the view, swam in the ocean (wicked waves, hands down beats Sandbanks anyday), got half drunk at happy hour (two for one...dangerous stuff!), swam in the pools, and eventually dressed up nicely for dinner on an open air terrace that overlooks that ocean. Let me tell you, I could get used to that kind of treatment! Dinner was amazing and you could hear a singer on the patio below the whole time we were eating. It was absolutely beautiful.

Saturday I actually had to go in to the hospital in the morning for rounds. They were quite interesting as several new kids had come in over night. Plus I got to visit my favourite baby...a little boy who is waiting to be adopted. The nurses tease me that he is starting to know me because he turns his head and looks at me as soon as I start to talk to him :) He's a sweetheart.

Then today we went on a cruise up the west coast of the island and a big sailboat/catamaran thingy. It was awesome! Nice and sunny with a beautiful breeze on the water. We stopped twice along the way to go snorkelling. Once in an area where there are sea turtles that we swam with. I touched one too! It was awesome!!! All I could think was - man that looks just like the turtle in Finding Nemo...hahahah. Then the second time we stopped there was a coral reef with lots of cool little fishes and some ship wrecks. Finally as we got up near the top of the island we put down anchor and they served us a traditional Bajan lunch - chicken, fish, rice with beans, corn, a couple salads and fried plantains. It was VERY yummy. Also througout the whole cruise they are constantly bringing you refills on Rum Punch since an open bar is included in the price :) Again..I could really get used to this life!

Sadly now I am sitting at home nursing a wicked bad sunburn. Apparently SPF 70 several times on my casper white Canadian skin is just no match for the Carribean sun. Ah well, hopefully the medicated aloe will kick in and I'll be able to make it down to church at sunset.

Another wonderful weekend all in all. I can't believe how blessed I am to get to live a life like this the whole summer. Combining all the things I love into several weeks is just overwhelming. It's too bad I can't have all the people I love here with me...but you know who you are :)

So I wonder if you glow in the dark too!! Sunburns can be wicked - I once got a third degree one on my thighs while on a canoe trip.

So the little bambino is getting to know you. Now don't even think about brining him home in your carry on.

So you enjoyed a taste of how the other half live with your visit to the Hilton. Yes those hotels sure know how to treat you nicely. Yes Sandbanks is but a mere pond when you compare the waves to those in the ocean. Have you seen anyone surfing - that is supposed to be popular in the Barbados.

The catamaran trip sounds like a realy neat way to get around and to swim from as well. Snorkelling on your remote medicine course will not even come close to turtles and cool little fishes.

Blessed yes - and an opportunity to learn medicine to boot. Wonder what adventures your fell students have had this summer. I bet that not many have had the wonderful times that you have. Two adventures almost down and one to go. As maggie muggins used to say - its been a wonderful day I wonder what will happen tomorrow?

    luv
    ;-))

Sounds like wayyyyyy to much for school! haha So you think it is worth bringing say a couple of nurses (a.k.a. Jill and Julie) and setting up a nice little clinic in barbados? oh and of course Mandy, she can help at the clinic during the day and be an actress/singer/dancer at the Hilton showcase at night!! Oh the lives we will live. Glad to hear about all the fun and wishing I was with you along the way. Squeeze that little cutie's cheeks for me See you soonish Jill
